Cole Lewis: Captain, Stratford Warriors

For Cole Lewis, forward and point-producing playmaker for the Stratford Warriors, playing for his hometown team isn’t just an opportunity, it was a long-time goal. Growing up in Stratford, Lewis was a lifelong Stratford Cullitons fan, and now as a leader on the Warriors, he’s embraced the chance to represent his town on the ice.

“Being a co-captain was a great experience last year,” Lewis says. “It’s my second year in the league, and the leadership responsibilities have helped me grow as a player and a person. I’m a laid-back leader, but I play with a lot of emotion. I try to stay calm and lead by showing how the game should be played.”

“We try to support the youth as much as possible, going to minor hockey games and staying involved. It’s important to connect with the next generation of players”

Playing for the Warriors comes with its perks, including the support of a passionate fan base. “The fans here are incredible. They’re loud the entire game, and you can feel their energy,” Lewis shares. “It’s also really special when people recognize you around town. It shows how much the city supports the team.” Stratford’s hockey culture, with its deep history and vibrant community, has always stood out, and Lewis takes pride in being part of it.

As a player, Lewis is a dynamic forward with a physical edge. “I like to stir things up when I need to, but I also focus on being a 200-foot player,” he explains. His versatility and ability to impact the game in all zones make him a key contributor for the Warriors. Off the ice, he’s equally committed to the team’s goals. “We want to show up every night and give a full 60 minutes, always putting the team first. It’s about being ready to compete every game,” he says.

One of Lewis’ favourite aspects of being a Warrior is giving back to the community. “We try to support the youth as much as possible, going to minor hockey games and staying involved. It’s important to connect with the next generation of players,” he shares.

Reflecting on his career so far, Lewis highlights the Cherry Cup Finals during his rookie season as a standout memory. “Winning the Cherry Cup in my first year was an amazing experience. To do it in my hometown with such great support from the city – it was unforgettable,” he says.

For Lewis, much of his growth as a player comes from working with head coach Dave Williams. “Dave is a great coach. He knows so much about the game and helps you become the player you need to be,” Lewis says. This guidance has helped him hone his game and embrace his leadership role within the team.

When it comes to teammates, Lewis fondly remembers playing alongside Luke Fritz. “Luke was an incredible linemate. He had so much intensity and was never scared of anything. Playing with him was always exciting,” he says.

Looking ahead, Lewis hopes to push his hockey career as far as it can go, with firefighting school as a future aspiration. “After hockey, I’d love to go into firefighting. But for now, I want to see how far I can take my game,” he says.

Stratford itself plays a significant role in what sets the Warriors apart. “The staff and management here are incredible. They make you feel like a pro, always looking to help the players,” Lewis explains. “The arena is rich with history, and the city is beautiful – it’s a special place to play hockey.”

As he continues to lead the Warriors, Cole Lewis hopes his legacy will reflect his dedication to the game and his teammates. “I want to be remembered as someone who worked hard every night and helped others succeed,” he says. With his passion, skill, and commitment to his team and city, Lewis is leaving an indelible mark on Stratford hockey.
